Primary effects

  • Caffeine acts as a central nervous system stimulant, promoting an alert state of wakefulness or providing a jolt to counter tiredness.
  • It supports sustained individual productivity and fosters ritual, social bonding, and communication.

Negatives / side effects

  • High or excessive doses can lead to jitteriness, dizziness, irritability, headache, diarrhea, and can impede sleep.
  • Serious overdose symptoms include vomiting, chest pains, rapid heartbeat, breathing difficulties, or convulsions, requiring immediate medical attention.
  • Lethal overdose is rare but possible, with doses exceeding 5-10 grams or 150-200mg per kg of body weight being potentially fatal.

Aftereffects / comedown

  • Habitual caffeine consumption can lead to addiction.
