Experience

Primary effects

  • When smoked, damiana delivers a noticeable relaxing and sedating effect.
  • It produces a small mood lift and anxiolytic edge.
  • Some users report aphrodisiac qualities without 'stim-dick' side effects.

Peak character

  • A calming, relaxing, noticeably effective experience, not a placebo.

Negatives / side effects

  • Smoking any combustible material carries inherent health risks to the lungs; best to consider this when using.
  • Effects can be inconsistent; source quality matters, and some individuals report no effect.
  • Intensity may diminish with repeated use, sometimes requiring long breaks to regain full effect.

Aftereffects / comedown

  • Can lead to repeated and lucid dreaming after use.

Reagent testing

Adulterant detection: Turnera diffusa. No standard drug reagent test. Adulteration of 'damiana products' with synthetic cannabinoids has been documented historically.

Herbal smoking blends sold as damiana have historically contained synthetic cannabinoids. Fast Blue B or Duquenois-Levine could screen for synthetic cannabinoid adulteration in smoking blends.
