Primary effects
- Dose-dependent effects range from subtle perceptual shifts to profound dissociation.
- Causes mental dissociation from the body, derealization, and sensory distortion.
- Can induce a feeling of numbness and detachment in the body.
Peak character
- Disjointed and intense headspace, where reality feels offset and strange but not necessarily unpleasant.
- Experiences can range from relaxed contemplation to out-of-body states (k-hole) where time is suspended and perceptions are indescribable.
- Functional at lower doses (talking/typing) but challenging for responsive thought; higher doses lead to a profound insentience.
Negatives / side effects
- Unintentional k-hole entry, especially in public, can have serious consequences.
- Prolonged or frequent use carries a risk of severe kidney and/or bladder damage.
- High doses lead to extreme disorientation and derealization, making experiences highly individual and not for the inexperienced.
Aftereffects / comedown
- Rapid come-down to baseline, often with feelings of calm and well-being.
- Difficulty recalling the content of the experience (state-bounded memory).
- No intense comedown, with a pleasant glow and tingles experienced as effects fade.

Adulterant detection: Mandelin orange/red is characteristic for ketamine. The primary adulterant risk is substitution with other dissociatives (MXE, methoxetamine) or cutting agents. Fentanyl in ketamine is documented.
Mandelin is the best primary reagent for ketamine. Fentanyl strips increasingly important as contamination has been documented.
