Primary effects
- Cannabis offers diverse effects depending on the strain (sativa for cerebral, indica for sedating body effects) and preparation.
- Hashish and modern concentrates ('dabs') provide higher concentrations of psychoactive chemicals, leading to deeper effects.
- Oral consumption (edibles) has a delayed onset but a longer duration compared to smoking.
Peak character
- Can induce a cerebral high or sedating body effects, varying significantly by strain and individual.
Negatives / side effects
- Some strains can induce anxiety or panic attacks in certain individuals; strategies include using a different variety, reducing dose, or trying black pepper.
- No realistic possibility of fatal overdose from cannabis intoxication.

Adulterant detection: Duquenois-Levine is the standard cannabis/THC field test. Fast Blue B is a modern alternative. Neither distinguishes between CBD and THC. Synthetic cannabinoid spraying of low-quality cannabis is documented — both tests would react. Fentanyl has been found in some cannabis product supplies.
Fast Blue B is becoming the preferred field test. A positive result confirms cannabinoids but cannot distinguish natural vs synthetic. Fentanyl strips recommended for edible cannabis products sourced outside regulated markets.
