Adulterant detection: Peganum harmala — harmala alkaloid (harmine, harmaline) content. Froehde is the most useful reagent for harmala alkaloids. Strong MAOI activity — interaction risks cannot be tested.
Froehde confirms harmala alkaloid class. The MAOI activity creates dangerous drug interactions that cannot be screened by colorimetric tests — food and drug interaction awareness is essential.
